What does net-centric working provide?
Netcentric working is a method originating in crisis management and used by WIAL Netherlands to enrich and accelerate information exchange within teams and across teams and departments.
This creates more grip, focus and scope so that teams can work more effectively.
All involved can better and more quickly anticipate changes caused by their own developments within the team, department or organization, but also from the external environment. Decisions are better substantiated and aligned.
It also creates more capacity because you have more insight into the images, decisions and actions of other teams. This gives you an overview and you also know whether others are already working on a certain development and what their experiences are so that you don't have to 'reinvent the wheel' yourself and/or can add the images of others to your own.
This makes communication better and more complete because there is a better picture, which is also more current and transparent.
Combining Action Learning and Netcentric working greatly improves collaboration in an organization or program.
Crisis Management
Net-centric working stems from crisis management. When firefighters, police and ambulances face large-scale or complex incidents, sharing information is essential. Not only with the known partners, but also with other partners such as municipalities, utility companies, Department of Public Works, Water Boards and defense. By means of net-centric working, an Actual Shared Image is maintained per incident with the most relevant information for all involved. Each discipline then also has its own picture to be able to perform its own tasks properly.
Through the Current Shared Image, the process of imaging, judgment and decision-making can be accelerated and improved.
This information is added to the Total Current Shared Picture so that others are quickly informed based on it and/or can make their own new choices.
